Youth Speaker Brian Miller

What would you say to graduating high school seniors in 2015?

On June 18, 2015 youth motivational speaker Brian Miller delivered a commencement speech to the graduating high school seniors of Three Rivers Middle College in Norwich, CT. Three Rivers Middle College is an experimental college prep high school designed to treat students like adults, with all the responsibilities that come with it, in preparation for the much more rigorous college environment.

Miller spoke about defining success, why failure is necessary, and offered bits of advice for a happy and meaningful life.

From the Hartford Courant: “There isn’t one rigid definition of success,” said keynote speaker Brian Miller, who is a magician, comedian and musician. “Success is subjective.” While job description alone does not equal success, he said, being happy in one’s work is a common element in success stories. Main Ideas

  1. Be flexible in your idea of success. Succeed on your terms, and yours alone.
  2. Don’t waste energy trying to avoid failure. You will fail, and you will be okay.
  3. Discover your strengths and play to them.

Miller is a youth motivational speaker who combines traditional speaking conventions with audience interaction, live magic demonstrations, hilarious stories, and open Q&A sessions.

Based on his globally acclaimed TEDx talk “How to Magically Connect with Anyone,” Brian’s motivational speech Connect with Anyone (as if by Magic) inspires students and educators to make better, more meaningful connections with the people in their lives. He teaches the value of getting out of one’s comfort zone, and practical ways to start doing it today. Lastly he discusses the idea of leadership and what it means to be a leader in your life, to earn the trust and respect of those around you and have a positive impact on your world. Brian’s mantra “Our world is a shared experience” has resonated across continents and cultures.
